Description
Here is our latest sunset over the Mystic River. We ran for the river when we saw how red the clouds were turning. We got there a little late...2 minutes earlier and this would have been even more colorful. I used a ND Grad filter to darken the sky by 2 stops and to pull in more light from the river and the foreground. Of course, shooting in Raw helped catch more of the fading colors.

Very nice sunset. It's not often you get clear skies and just enough clouds to catch the light. From the color I'm guessing this was just after the sun went down? I can't tell you how many photographers I see pack up their gear and leave when the sun sets. That's when I get my best sunset shots.

Thanks Steve. You're right about the timing. We actually got to the river after the sun was below the tree line, and took this shot a few minutes after that. It's a 1/2 second exposure. We used a 2-stop graduated neutral density filter to darken the sky a bit and let the light come in off the water.
